It all began on December 31st, 2019, when China alerted WHO about several unusual cases of pneumonia in Wuhan. At that point, what infected them was unknown. Cut to March 17th 2020, COVID-19 has, also known as Coronavirus , infected a confirmed no. of 1, 67,511 people and claimed 6606 lives. In India, the total number of confirmed cases is 114, while the death toll is 2. But the silver lining, if one might call it, is that the first trial of the vaccine to battle this pandemic took place today. Yet there is a long battle ahead, and it has become essential to stock up (not hoard) on essential commodities for at least the next 14 days.
Agreed that the Indian diet does not consist much of canned or dried food. It is essential to stock up of foods with a longer shelf life like grains, lentils, dried fish, etc. Perishable items such as fresh fruits and vegetables too can be stored but not beyond their shelf-life. So it makes no sense to over-stock on them, instead of buying fresh milk that has a limited shelf-life, stock on tetra packs of milk.
It’s also important to not just stock up on daily food needs but also comfort food such as snacks, chocolates, instant noodles, coffee, tea, etc.
Apart from this, stock up on ready to eat food packs that require minimal effort to be cooked and have a long shelf life.
Consumption and stocking of poultry is best to be avoided as news channels are reporting a bird-flu outbreak in Mysuru.
Stock up on food depending on the number of people in your home into 14 days’ worth requirement.
American Red Cross recommends that you store at least 4 litres of water per person, per day in your house, in case your tap water is unsafe for consumption. E.g. If you have 3 people at home, it is recommended that you store 12 * 14 = 168 litres of water for 14 days.
Your best friends during the course of the quarantine are sanitizers, make sure you have enough stock that will last for 14 days at least. In case you run out of sanitizers, don’t panic, your regular is equally effective in disinfecting you against the virus.
Ensure to store personal hygiene items such as soaps, shampoos, feminine care items, diapers, tissues etc. that will last for the next 14 days.
In case you’re under any medication, ensure to stock on a 30 day supply of the same. Also stock on the following first-aid items:
In the digital age, you might run out of being in physical touch with your friends and colleagues but you can certainly stay connected via video calls. Don’t allow social isolation to take a mental toll on you and engage in spending time with people at home and catch - up with your friends and colleagues by skyping, video calling, etc. Also, physical fitness is directly linked to one’s wellbeing don’t forget to stretch and move your body at home to keep your spirits high.
Exposure to sunlight releases serotonin which is known to boost mood and help a person feel calm and focused. Without enough sun exposure, your serotonin levels can dip, leading to a higher risk of depression. So don’t forget to get your share of vitamin D by looking out of the window or balcony from time to time.
Follow these 7 essential pointers to stay prepared for an emergency quarantine that can last up to 14 days. As prevention is always better than cure, here are some tips for you to avoid the spread of Coronavirus or COVID - 19

Life insurance is a financial safety net that supports your loved ones in your absence. If something happens to you, it provides them with funds to help cover everyday expenses, repay debts, and achieve future goals. It gives you peace of mind, knowing your family’s financial future is secure— no matter what.
The right plan depends on your needs.
Start by assessing your life stage, financial goals, and the needs of your family. Consider factors like your income, outstanding loans, future expenses and goals (like children’s education, foreign travel, study abroad), and desired coverage amount. We offer a wide range of plans that cover multiple goals and budgets. To get a better idea and make a confident choice consult with a financial advisor or call us on 1800 102 2355.
A good rule of thumb is to aim for coverage that's 10–15 times your annual income. Consider your family’s living expenses, outstanding loans, children’s education, and long-term goals. The right amount ensures your loved ones can maintain their lifestyle and meet future needs— even in your absence.
